ABOUT SITGES…
Sitges, an old fishing village, was described over 3,000 years ago by Greek explorers as ‘Blanca Subur.’ Today it is an important international tourist destination due to its multiple attractions such as: magnificent beaches, a warm climate, cultural events of all kinds, conferences and a rich artistic and architectural heritage, mainly the stunning Church of Sant Bortomeu & Santa Telca, located on the waterfront. More than 300 sunny days year-round with an average temperature of 18.7ºC make Sitges a unique location with its own micro-climate. It has a 3 km boardwalk and 26 beaches. Ideal for a great holiday.
Sitges´s strategic location, just 40 km south of Barcelona and 45 km from Tarragona, makes it a perfect holiday getaway. The 19th century Art Nouveau and Romantic artistic heritage, along with year-round celebrations and events, offer visitors the chance to really enjoy their stay in this charming village at any time of year.
Sitges´ narrow central alleyways, sandy beaches and climate make it a marvellous destination. Famous artists like Santiago Rusiñol have left their mark on many corners of this seaside village.
Cau Ferrat, Rusiñol’s house and workshop, or even the Palau Maricel are evidences of the ‘American’ and artistic influence in urban developments and other buildings and sites.
Beaches:
Sitges boasts excellent beaches with great tourist infrastructures and marinas that offer water sports facilities. There are 17 beaches for all tastes (big, small, coves, naturist, or family-orientated), both inside and outside the town.
There are numerous beach activities for all everyone: first aid workshops for the little ones, aerobics classes, aquarobics, tai-chi, chi-kung, small boat hiring… all excellently organised to enjoy your experience best.
Cuisine:
Similarly, cuisine is also part of the local attractions. Here you can taste the best fish, the famous Vilanova prawns, Punxencs snails or cuttlefish. Rice dishes are also popular, but let us not forget Xató, the most famous regional dish.
